Target audience feedback from the magazine cover and poster

 We uploaded our magazine cover and our poster onto a social networking site called Facebook. By posting our magazine cover and poster on to a social networking site it allowed us to have access to a numerous amount of target audiences as well as our desired target audience. The feedback from the comments in which we got were pretty much constructive criticism which helped us as a group as we were then able to develop the magazine cover and poster to what our target audience wanted so the outcome means that it will be a better product.

Some of the comments in which were given were;

  • The poster is too dark, it needs to be brighter so that it is more eye catching
  • The magazine shot is too far back, there is too much background and its not focused on the characters
  • pay attention to the small details within the layers of editing as this will help with the color composition as well as the saturation levels which will improve the professionalism of the product.

Evaluation 4

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

 When we started to create our products and presenting them we used many different technologies these ranged from applications used on sites as well as software's on the macs which include Blogger and GarageBand.  New media technologies have been used from the very beginning from planning and research right the way through to the evaluation.  These range from Apple's Mac to Adobe softwares, Mac's were our main source to other programs simply because of their design, they are created for creative use meaning we could be more experimental with our products, as well as giving them a different perspective as we aimed to challenge the conventions of a war film.

     Microsoft office consists of programs such as PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Publisher etc.  These are all programs people use in their everyday lives including for their leisure as well as business use for their occupations and we decided to use them in many different stages of our projects due to the ease of use and familiarity of the programs within the software. For example I used them for when i was researching my target audience and so
 I used Word to create my target audience questionnaires,  this then gave them a professional look and kept the layout neat. For my results of the questionnaires I used a combination of PowerPoint and Excel to create a range of graphs to show the responses to my questionnaire results By using PowerPoint this then allowed me to use it to be able to present for the charts and Excel allowed me to easily input the data and create the graphs in which I needed.  This was helpful when extracting the useful data for future decisions.
     Using Microsoft Office and its applications as a group gave us a huge advantage as within the group we have two members who study ICT - One being my self,  and all of us have some experience with the programs, it meant we could use the software easily and didn't feel limited by the lack of knowledge.

     Once we began to create our trailer we decided as a group we would use Final Cut Express  to put everything together as the program was more professional and allowed us to have more of a creative perspective over what we do to the footage.  Such as cutting footage, deleting audio, adding extra audio, combine visual and audio elements, apply filters, change the size of footage etc.
     A reason for us choosing Final Cut Express over iMovie is because of the higher professional level the program is on. This is because Final Cut Express is used widely in the media industry and is particularly popular with people who do video blogs also known as vloggers and many other professionals in the business.  If professionals use Final Cut Express then we are more likely to make a higher standard film with the same effect as them.
     Final Cut Express had more pros to offer us than cons, however we came into contact with a few issues when using the program.  An example is that the camera's that we were using we had to import footage through iMovie and then export it to XML.  This was time consuming and downgraded the quality of some of the footage, it also meant we had to teach ourselves how to convert it again.  Although once you get used to the program it is fairly easy to use, teaching yourself is rather difficult as you have to search very specific things and sometimes can't find sufficient tutorials.

     GarageBand was an extremely useful software in which we used to create and compose the soundtrack for our film trailer.  By using GarageBand this then allowed use to use a wide variety of sounds, from Apple loops to downloaded MP3's from the internet, adjust the pitch, tone, tempo etc to create a smooth track that suited our kind of film.  The software allowed us to time the music perfectly, shorten or lengthen loops and make the sounds match up to certain parts of the trailer for dramatic effect.

Both  of our ancillary tasks ;our poster and magazine cover were made in Photoshop from start to finish, it allowed us to correct multiple things such as;
    lighting, adjust colors, crop and re-size, clone, add layers, add effects, text extra photos etc.
All of Photoshop's tools were extremely useful, we could zoom in and change even the slightest of details, we cloned areas of the tree to cover the sky, added a vignetting effect around the edge, removed blemishes, warped certain images to change the shape, erase other parts and more.

Evaluation 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

 By looking at this first screen shot you can see a variety of scenery as well as the props in which we used in order to create the desired atmosphere. Within this screen shot you can clearly see that we have already used a park which was located within the medway towns, which was also contained some climbing and activity aparatus. We used these to our advantages with training and the before 'happy' life. When I was carrying out my research for my trailer research blog I did not once come across this scene or use of such camera skills within one scene due tot he genre. This is because the genre we have chosen does not typically start with something happy or as calm as this, so we challenged the conventions of a typical war genre trailer just by composing this scene and including it within our trailer.

By looking within this screen shot it is clear to see that we have used a variation of shots within our trailer. This is because of the type of atmosphere of what we wish to create for our target audience. The reason why we used this shot is because by the camera angles at this position it makes it look almost like it is something in which they are trying to reach, like a goal in which they desire to accomplish. The reason for using this shot is because of the symbolism in which is has and the way in which it can be related back to the plot of the film. This is because the aim of the plot was that females were going to be fighting in the war, so within this shot we have included some key parts of the symbolism which is that there are only females within the shot who are aiming to have achieved what they set our to do- win the war. This scene is quite particular within films, especially action and war films. This is because they usually have the plot of having to achieve something or to gain a certain aspect of the film for the target audience to be intregued. BY having such a common shot within our film we though that maybe this will help our trailer be less marginalised from other films with similar aspects. But the outcome in which we wanted was for our trailer to be different and unexpected which would excite the target audience and create an interest for a 'forgotten' genre. This shot also shows the costumes in which one of our characters wore which was simplistic but yet effective dark navy and black which was best for camouflage and consistency throughout the trailer.

This shot which we have included within our trailer, was something which is commonly seen within horror and psychological thriller films, so with this shot we decided to challenge the conventions of a war films by having some aspects of the film linking and converging between a number of genres. The reason for this is because we wanted to interest our target audience and grasp their attention at the edge of their seats. The camera work in which we used within this scene is slightly different than the ones in which we have previously within the trailer, this is because we wanted to show people that we knew what types of camera shots there were as well as what they could do in order to create the desired atmosphere for the war genre. The outcome of this is that there was not as much of an effect as what we anticipated, this is probably due to the fact that the people who we asked to watch the film were not lovers of a war film so they probably had bias opinions about the trailer which made it an unfair judgement.

This shot simple shows the map and the torch which we used as props to show where the enemy was attacking and where as well as to show organisation within the war genre and how certain things can be anticipated. This scene has been found on countless occasions within war films, but however they are usually on a larger scale with ships, tanks and planes where as we are more on a ground location so by marker out where the enemy are placed. This shot is commonly scene within a various number of films so it was no surprise to some of our target audience feedback saying that this shot looks like something they have seen in some other movies which have war related scenes.

 This scene shows emma running down the trench, running away from something or someone. We decided to include this shot because we have used a variation of shots within our trailer to attract our target audiences attention but with the use of this shot we can see this scene from a different aspect, possibly the enemy's? We decided to include this shot on purpose because we wanted to give the target audience the opportunity to have their own perspective of the film as well as from who's point of view they will be looking from and into.

 I took this screen shot of my trailer because of the effect of all of the transitions and the camera work combined. This is because when singled out both pieces are nothing more than footage but by combining both of the footage together and with the use of some transitions from Final Cut Express we was able to make the two pieces of footage over lap and interlink with one another perfectly to give that kind of hallucination feel to the trailer which links in with the plot, is the war happening or it is a mental fatality causing a repercussion of an individual. The camera work which was included within these shots were mostly panning shots to help give the atmosphere of hallucinations and the concept of being lost and confused at a stressful time within society.

 This screen shot shows that I have combined two different shots by having a useful editing tool called transition, which I was able to include within Final Cut Express due to my knowledge after watching some clips on Youtube. The camera work that I have included her are an extreme close up of my face to symbolise the impact in which something so serious can happen and the consequences of rivalry. This shot also holds some of the most vital aspects of the film, this is because this one shot involves the location, the setting, the costume, props ( the liquid latex) and the camera work and editing. This is all something in which I have not seen before within a war film. So we have challenged the conventions of a war film because I never seen these combinations of such techniques and ability to have so many skills combined within one shot.

 This shot shows the setting, location and the character in costume with the use of blood for emphasis on the props for resemblance for the target audience for symbolism about what has happened without actually showing what actions went down. This is also quite a common scene within the war genre of films, this is because it is almost shown in every film after the main character of the film is hurt or injured and they are trying to find their way back home. So it turns out to be a quite generic scene in every war film so it turns into a homogenised scene for war films. Within this screen shot you can also see that the use if the camouflage army kit has helped to blend into the background which would have helped many people during the war.

 This screen shot was taken because it shows the use of props within the film as well as the use of scenery which we used a field near to the school for easy access and location during school hours for shots in which we can do at anytime. This shot shows a resemblance between the shot above and the plot of the film. This is because of the link between the background and the blood.  The blood helps the target audience to be able to have some questions bouncing off of their minds about what happened, who did it happen to, is she dead, is the war over. All of these questions will cause speculation between one another and then the target audience will have an interest to watch the rest of the film.

 These two screen shots are off the title and the coming soon scene within the trailer. These are the most common thing to find within a film trailer, this is because each film trailer must have the film title included so that the target audience can look out for the title in the cinema and on the shelves in stores for buying it on DVD. This is completely the same for all real media products. This is because every film trailer consists of these two scenes.

Evaluation 3

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

I have learnt a variety of different things about what audience feedback can do and how it can influence choices.

  When we started to make our film trailer  and the two ancillary tasks we had to decide about how we were going to incorporate the target audience within them as well as what suggestions that were going to provide us with. And so this is why we created audience questionnaires and collected the relevant data so that we could  find out what is  the most likely target audience for us and the promotional package as well as to do research about what type of person will have the right audience portfolio to want to see our promotional package. The audience feedback allowed us to examine and see what types of individuals are most likely to watch our film and who our target audience is, once we collected this data we were then able to create an audience portfolio. This then meant that we were able to make changes and develop certain aspects of our poster, magazine or trailer according to the responses and feedback from our audience, mostly it was a comment saying about how we could improve our products to make them look more professional. All of our feedback was delivered to us as a group through a varied range of social networking sites and social media sites such as Facebook.

  When creating and assembling our trailer we got feedback from our target audience within the school as well as some constructive criticism from other media teachers and some photography teachers.  While they were watching the trailer we decided to ask them that at the end of watching the trailer, to give us good and bad feedback as this will help to develop the product into something more effective and possibly reach our target audience with the most appropriate angle. However due to quality of the film when uploaded onto blogger we were unable to get accurate feedback due to the lack in quality, what this meant was that we were unable to use this feedback . Also because Jess's brother was in the film trailer she didn't want him to be on social networking sites due to him being under a certain age as well as for confidentiality reasons. There wasn't as much negative feedback that we got the only thing we did get told was that they would like to see some blood scenes and some gory parts to make it look like some thing bad had happened and that someone had got injured. So we managed to get this Incorporated into our trailer near the end.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

My opinion about how effective the combination of our promotional package is that the overall effectiveness of the package is what I imagined. This is because the package is innovative, unique, outstanding and it is an exact replica of all of our strengths within the group. Personally within the group we had Emma who was more confident doing the music and photoshop side of things, this is because she was more mentally knowledgeable about the Softwares and their advantages of the outcomes. We had Jessica who was more confident with filming the footage and using Final Cut Express and then we had my self, where as being my self as such a flamboyant character I was more comfortable being in front of the camera and the use of Imovie. So as a group we made the best of our strengths and we combined them all to reach our goal in achieving this promotion package.

The type of promotional package in which we wanted to create was going to be targeted at more of a niche audience. This is because the war genre is most commonly targeted at more niche audiences, for example Pearl Harbour was targeted at the small target audience range of 30-45. The reason why we decided to target a niche audience is because of the more in depth in which we can go into for the individual them selves as well as predicting the outcome of the package.

Voice over

 This is the voice over script for the trailer. For the voice over we decided that we needed to look at trailers that also had a voice over and look at the effectiveness of this compared with the outcome of the voice over as well as wether the voice over was done my a male or female as well as if the voice over was long pieces or wether it was short pieces.

By looking Pearl Harbours film trailer, you can see that the trailer consists of a male voice over which creates a foundation for other non-diagetic sound to be placed over the trailer.

In comparison by looking at Saving Private Ryan it is clear to see that the voice over of the trailer is not as effective as Pearl Harbour's because of the genre difference as well as the differential decoding of the target audience and the purpose of the film.

 However by comparing these voice overs with the voice over in which I conducted as an individual was challenging the conventions of a war film.

By looking at a Slide share presentation i was able to gather some statistics which state that the most effective gender for a voice over is male because of the more assertiveness with the tone and pitch of the voice which suits 80% of genres of films.  This information i collected was from the slide on the hyperlink below;

Social networks

Some of the social networks that our team have used within our course work are;

  • Blogger
  • Youtube
  • Slide share
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Intergram
We used blogger to update our blogs with new information about all of the information and steps that we was taking within our coursework to reach the final product. We also looked at other blogs from people with similar specifications and also some blogs with how to get target audience as well as how to use imovie and final cut express to their full advantage. By using Blogger we had this as an advantage with our digital technology, this is because we used this application within our foundation portfolio, we used it to record all of our blogs and vlogs as well as posting our final pieces on to the internet via this web application.

We used youtube to research many different things such as trailers. The reason why we decided to use youtube to research trailers is because on youtube there is a wide range of possible trailers which are available to anyone who can access the internet.  We also used YouTube because we managed to upload out trailer on to the internet to get some national and international views and responses on the final product. We mainly used this web application because on youtube there are a variety of different videos that we watched when we was stuck or confused about how to do a certain thing. For example we used YouTube to research how to use liquid latex to do a scar on the face, and so by following the video which we found on YouTube we were able to recreate a scar which is part of the make up with the trailer for the main character. The benefits of using youtube is that there is so many trailers on this site that no matter what genre you are after there is bound to be a trailer with that genre. We also used youtube to research the different ways in which we can edit the trailer as well as the different ways in which we could edit the poster and magazine pictures. We also used youtube to display our final trailer to get feedback form the general public.

We also used slide share to help us out with things such as target audience questionnaires and the genres which we was considering choosing for our trailer. I personally used Slideshare for when i was stuck on a blog post to see if someone else had written a powerpoint about the post that i was doing and seeing if i could get any help from reading it.

 We used Facebook for many different reasons throughout our coursework, the main one was for target and audience feedback. This is because we uploaded many different posts on to Facebook, some of them were titles and fonts so that we could see what our target audience thought about our possible titles and the possible fonts in which we thought of. We also used it to get feedback on our poster ideas and magazine ideas as well as our final products of our poster and magazine. We also posted the final products as a package bundle onto Facebook to see what people of all ages thought about our final product.

We also used Twitter to upload our final versions of our products such as our poster, magazine cover and our trailer. From this we was able to gather our target audience feedback by using a variety of different social networking sites to be able to catch the attention of our desired target audience.

We also used Instagram to upload our poster and magazine ideas as well as the full package at the end to see what followers thought about our trailer, poster and magazine cover. I have included my target audience feedback from Instagram within my blogs for my reasons why I have changed something or for the reason why we haven't changed anything.

Music inspirations and ideas

The music inspiration in which i have looked are are these two songs, This is because I think that by the removal of a few of the lyrics from 'eye of the tiger' then this will give a good base line for the training scenes for the girls. This will give the atmosphere of inspiration for the characters as well as giving teh audience a new atmosphere in which they would associate the genre WAR with. This will also be apart of our goal which is to challenge the conventions of a typical war film.

In the wild, seeing the "eyes" of the tiger signifies death, because right before a tiger attacks, it turns its ears forward so that the spot on the back of each ear faces nearer its prey. The "eye spots" on the back of tigers' ears serve to confuse predators and reduce the risk of attack from behind. Hence, once someone sees these "eyes", the tiger is about to attack. So this can be related to our trailer because it is linked to death and the fear of being worthless and afraid.

Wilfred Owen's poem "Dulce Et Decorum Est" was written during his World War I experience. Owen was an officer in the British Army, and he wanted for all of the people back home to know what peoples sons and husbands were doing as well as what monstrosity it was causing. His poem explains how the British press and public comforted themselves with the fact that, terrible that is was, all the young men dying in the war were dying noble, heroic deaths as they were patriotic enough to die young and proud, dying for their country. Although the case was that there was obscene and terrible deaths, but Own wanted to throw the war right into the patriotic's noses just to visually illustrate how vile and inhumane the was really is. He explains within this poem that people will encourage you to fight for your country, but, in reality, it may simply be sentencing yourself to an early unnecessary death. The title of the poem means "Sweet and Fitting it is," and then the poem ends with the title that is, in fact, a lie.

Garage Band

To create the music for our trailer we used a program called GarageBand, below I have included a print screen of a part of the track in which Emma created. The reason why we chose Emma to create the music for our advanced portfolio was because she had used GarageBand in her foundation portfolio so she was already familiar with the software and its applications. However we still worked as a team on the music this is because all three of us had certain inputs into the music creation, we done this by suggesting certain things in which Emma could input into the music as well as giving reviews when Emma had done a section we would all listen to it and give our feedback. Emma was able to use GarageBand loops to be able to create the music in which we needed, what this meant was that she was able to construct a piece of music by having a collection of musical instruments combined together, by finding tones which complimented one another and which fit in with certain parts of the trailer. Emma made sure that each piece of music was long enough for the trailer section by using the timer tool which can be located at the bottom of the screen. Within the screen shot in which I have included its clear to see where one instrument is as well as where others are located.

Final Cut Express

When it came to editing our footage and composing our trailer we decided to use a software called Final Cut Express. This is a different software to the one in which I used within my foundation portfolio. The one in which I used within my foundation portfolio is Imovie which was more advanced with the technology and last year I did not find that Imovie was easier to use than Final Cut Express. Below I have included some print screens of how we used Final Cut Express to create our film trailer.

The first step in which we had to do was import the footage and pictures from the SD card to the mac as we used both still images and running footage within our trailer for different effects. The screen shot below shows that the footage in which we required is on the bar at the bottom where we can edit the footage to make it as effective as what we can do with this software. By using this software we have the ability to import a large amount of footage in one go which makes it more effectively and efficiently.

After we had imported the footage it was time to start composing our film by clipping some footage. This step is where we started to combine footage sections together, within this stage we hadn't added in any transitions so the footage was jumping from one scene to another so it was not in a flowing matter at this stage. However by using the software to its potential we was able to shuffle the footage around into different places so that we could create our desired plot as well as to make sure that the footage made sense.

After we arranged the footage as well as editing and cropping the desired footage to what we needed and required we then began to slot it all together with the addition of transitions. We used a variety of different transitions to start off with but then we decided to keep the consistency throughout the trailer, so we decided to stick to fades of black and white. The reason for this is because as a group decision we felt that it looked more professional when we had consistency throughout the trailer. The fades to white added more of an action feel to the trailer and it gave the trailer a quicker pace with the transition, however the fade to black gave the opposite which was the corresponding feel which is what we were looking for which was fear which is what we wanted the fade to black to represent.

The editing process in which we under went involved the following steps;  cropping, cutting, inserting, adding filters, removing and overlapping sound, using two different software's together, changing speed and many other steps. Two members within the group had the most strongest skills and knowledge about using Final Cut Express within our group and so everyone within the group still had a go at using the software so that they can also gain confidence and contribute to the trailer. This was a benefit to the group as we was able to make the trailer a success between the three of us.

My Role within the group

Because of some disturbances within the groups unfortunately I was unable to stay with the same group from my foundation portfolio, which meant that as a group we had to figure out what everyone's strengths and weaknesses were so that we could help one another and combine our strengths for the effectiveness for our film. My main role within the group was being the main character within the film as I was the member with the most confidence about being filmed and performing to a high standard. However the other two members of my group gave me suggestions and input about what I could do to improve my performance as well as telling me things which would help our group such as standing in a different position for the magazine cover. I also had the roles of making the scripts for the voice overs as well as performing the voice overs for the trailer. Last year my role was to do the schedule and to organize what shots we needed on each filming trip, however this year I was able to expand on my knowledge and gain experience within all areas of the coursework rather than in one aspect.
  My weakest areas are editing which is because I had to learn editing by self-taught techniques because i did not know how to use Final Cut Express and so I had to look up certain things such as how to insert transitions as well as how to render the clips and I looked this up by asking our technician as well as looking things up on the internet with an application called YouTube.

Challenging the conventions

Within our trailer we challenged the conventions of a typical war film. This is because our film has the typical conventions of;

  • Location- in an abandoned place which is perfect for a battle scene between enemies. Or long empty streets with little housing.
  • Natural ambiance lighting from natural sources such as lamppost lighting as well as natural lighting form the sun and surrounding reflections.
  • Typically all males feature in the film, to show assertiveness and firm decision making.
  • and many more...
However as a group we have decided to challenge the conventions of a traditional war film, this is because we wanted our trailer to be rememberable for our target audience.
   We challenged the conventions of a war film because we decided to have all female characters and actors within the film. This challenged the convention of a war film because typically there would have been all males within the film which would have meant more of a materialistic view to the film as well as the target audience having a different judgement and a different view of how they would percept the film. By having all females we challenged the convention of a war because typically back in the day, women were not allowed to fight in the war. So this also advertised and promoted women's rights and feminism within a generic time for the country.
    We added in artificial ambiance lighting within the film to give the film a more of an edge feel to it for suspension and adrenaline rush.By having the torch as a source of artificial lighting this gave the scene at the end a more of a clearing to the suspected visual representation of the film. We challenged this convention of a war film because of the effectiveness in which it produced as well as how it linked to our trailer effectively which gave the trailer something to flow by as well as having an uncovered section within the film to intrigue the target audience.
  We changed the location of shooting our film to challenge the conventions of a war, this is because of the effectiveness of which we found with other locations as they produced the atmosphere to accompany the acting and representation of the war with the contrast of the music which was made, produced and directed by Emma.
As you can see from our film poster that we have challenged the conventions of a war film poster as well as challenging the conventions of a war magazine cover, below are the examples and our magazine cover and the film poster.

Magazine development

This picture was taken so that we could get a different perspective compared to the film poster. This is because  within the film poster we have focused upon a single individual character to have the feeling of total alone ness within the picture for emphasis and affection to the target audience. At a first glance this is just a simple picture but in fact it symbolizes their solitude as a character and an individual about how alone they are in something so serious and life changing.  We did consider having both of the characters looking into the camera to have that connection with the target audience, however we wanted to capture the power and portray it in way of an emotion. An emotion of looking up and having just that tiny bit if hope which will help them conquer their mission. The key concept of this picture is something very small but it is very significant and this is the position of my hand ( the one in the army gear ), As you can see from this image you can see that both characters look very distant, but by having the hand connection they symbolize unity and becoming one and it also creates and portrays a stronger connection between both characters.

This was one of our first ideas for our film magazine.  We thought that this kind of position may portray a sense of fear as both of the characters are trying to hide behind the tree suggesting that they are running from something.  However we found that this kind of magazine cover didn't suit trailer conventions and the angling of the characters also looked strange.  In hindsight we could see that there wouldn't be enough room around the characters for text, the tree trunk takes up the center of the cover which draws in most attention and Laura's positioning it too twisted, a more direct angle such as Jess' would have worked better.  It presents our main character as very vulnerable for our magazine cover, vulnerability is something we could use in our poster however for the magazine we wanted to create a sense of power to imply more things about the film.

                                                                                                       Improved
                  Original
These are our two different magazine covers which we had to change and improve upon due to the target audience feedback as well as not having the requirements for the target audience. The target audience feedback suggested to us is that the girl in the army outfit is to much blended into the background and the so the magazine cover did not have the affect in which we wanted it too. So by having taken in our target audience feedback we decided to take into account all of the possibilities for our magazine cover.

 The difference between the two magazine covers are; changing the colour of the text at the top of the magazine cover as well as for the exclusive  text which is located within the magazine cover at the middle left side of the magazine cover. We also elaborated on the background colour of the trees as well as the composition of the outfits and how they were lifted with the use of colour enlighten tool. Emma was the more professional and most educated when it came to Photoshop so she was the one to make all of the changes as we wanted more of a professional look to the magazine cover rather than an amateur doing the magazine cover.  We also changed the title of our film with font, this is because we decided to have our logo included upon the magazine cover, this is because at first we just substituted for a different font style due to us not of already completing the trailer.

The green screen was used within our research and planning because we wanted to research about the best possible ways in which we could present our trailer and poster, as well as showing how our skills have developed from our foundation portfolio to our advanced portfolio.  But after doing some trial runs on what the outcome would be we decided that this would not be effective within our trailer because of the realism behind it. This is because all backgrounds we could find for the green screen made the trailer look amateur and completely unprofessional. We mainly used the green screen within our research stage of our coursework which allowed us to experiment about how we could use the green screen effectively or to see whether it would work or not.  By experimenting with the green screen we was able to gain knowledge and information about how to use the green screen as well as how professional photographers use green screen to create film posters and magazine covers.

During the research stage of researching magazine covers and how the are combined with different methods and forms of applications and softwares, we came across a convention which was the background of the covers. Which was commonly a hazy background or a background which looked like it had been technically modified to fit the purpose of the cover. By looking at this conversation we attempted to use the green screen to re-create the magazine covers which we had researched. The reason why we attempted to use the green screen was to try to have the professional approach on the magazine cover. Although the outcome which happened was unbearable, this is because no one within our group used the green screen before in our foundation portfolio so we was unsure about all of the different factors which could affect the outcome of the picture.

A benefit of using the green screen is that by capturing shots and still images with the screen would increase the professionalism of the film poster as well as almost imitating the film posters we have researched which could become more appealing to our target audience. It also allowed us to re-take the still images as often as we like rather than having to wait for the most appropriate weather moment.

In conclusion with using the green screen it is clear to us as a group that we could not use the green screen to add professionalism within our promotional package, this is because we were not comfortable and confident when using the green screen as well as trying to combine the appropriate background with the possible picture. We also felt as a group that we lacked the knowledge of how to use the green screen effectively to get the best possible grade for our film poster.

Costumes

Laura (Me)-
     I wore a dark coloured top, which was either black brown or deep burgundy depending on the scene as well as the natural ambiance from the sun.
    For the film poster I wore a purple top with my green parka coat alongside with black leggings and brown boots. The reason for this combination for an outfit is because the purple top gave that deepness feeling to the atmosphere whereas wearing the green parka jacket gave the poster that old reminiscing feel to it, this is because parker jackets were worn back in the day when the war was occurring- which will attract our niche target audience. The reason why I chose to have leggings is because they were the easiest piece of clothing to use for the filming as well as being a very much generic piece of clothing which people can relate back to the war times as well as having relation to the newer generation with regards to the clothing and the fashion styles. The boots were there as more of a generic footwear this is because we needed to find a suitable piece of footwear which is practical for the filming as well as to suit the genre of film in which we were doing- war.
    For the footage of the trailer I wore my brothers  cadet uniform which is a camouflage jacket and matching trousers with the black military boots.

Emma-

Emma wore her grey coat within the picture taking for the magazine cover and film poster ideas, and film making.

Jessica

 Jessica wore black leggings and her black coat with a pair of black wellingtons for the themed genre of the film which kept things consistent within the film and the shots.

FIlm Poster picture taking.

The reason why we decided to take this picture is because we got a different perspective of the camera. This shows off the characters from a perspective of some one looking upon them, By getting Laura( me in the middle) to look up in such a way which suggests that I am looking at the way out. We chose this location to shoot this possible film poster because of the atmosphere in which it creates for the picture. With the dirty-muddy un even surfaces with the surroundings gave a great atmosphere to the picture as it also links in with the genre of our film.

The reason why we took this picture is because we decided that by having one of the characters reaching for help this will symbolise the fact that I was running from something. The reason why we chose to have this picture is because it shows the audience that we can use a different range of shots to create a different range of atmospheres for the target audience as well as giving a different perspective for the way in which the picture can be interpreted.  The reason why we chose this image is because of the natural ambiance of the picture already will have a perfect basis to edit upon for photoshop as well as any other possibilities within our trailer.

Billing Block

A billing block is a block of credits which are usually located in the middle of the page at the bottom. These show other aspects of how credits can be presented for films. Some of the conventions for a billing block are;

  • It is all written in capital letters
  • It is located at the bottom of the poster
  • All of the names are in a larger font compared to the other text within the billing block.
  • Under the billing block there are usually film companies that were used in the production of the film, for example Universal.
The billing block within our trailer is a very important font, this is because it is a very unique font which is significantly the only font style which is long and thin so it looks almost squashed, after researching for a billing block font we came across one which suited the billing block to a 'T', as well as it following the conventions of a billing block. The font in which we found as well as using is named Steel Tong.
