Institutions

The institutions that we have been considering for our trailer are;

  • Paramount
  • Touch stone
  • Twisted pictures
  • New line cinema
 When first considering what institution would be best suited for out trailer and the genre we has to take into account that our trailer will be low budgeted, so the best options would be to have a smaller institution which is less known because then this will suit our trailer down to the very fine lines. Which means that institutions such as Universal Pictures and 20th Century fox productions are too global for a small budgeted film to be produced.

Paramount
 We thought that maybe having the paramount institution at the start of our trailer would be beneficial. This is because Paramount do other horror films and most of then are our influences. Some of the horror films that paramounts institution has been used for are; Friday the 13th and Paranormal activity.
Although that friday the 13th is a slasher movie they still hold the same conventions of a horror. This is because they both consist of horrible jumpy things happening to the stereo typical vulnerable simple minded blonde girl. As well as some of the other conventions which are the locations such as graveyards, churches, woods and abandoned houses. They also both encounter the same atmosphere given to the target audience of loneliness and awareness. As a group we also decided not to use this institution because it is commonly seen alongside comedies as well as rom-coms which is the opposite atmosphere for what we are trying to create for our target audience. so this institution is not going to be used within our trailer.

Touch Stone
We thought about  maybe using this institution because of the aesthetics of the the intitution. This is because the picture is on a black background which is a convention of a horror, by having a black background it will link in with the genre of the trailer as well as maybe the following scene. our choice was also influenced by the fact that Touchstone does some of the horror films, such as; a spy thriller of Enemy of state and Armageddon. These two films share a connection, a connection of disaster which we can link to our own trailer.  possibly by using this institution the target audience who watched the two previously named films are likely to come and watch my film. This is because they might have really enjoyed the films before and they liked the distributor and so they might be likely to like our film as well. As a group we have decided that we will include this institution within our trailer this is because it gives the right atmosphere as well as being completed with our influences and its distribution history.

Twisted Pictures
We considered about using this institution because of its film history.This is because previously this institution has been used within the sequel of films known as SAW. This influenced our decision because of the genre in which SAW is, and the genre is similar to ours as well as certain parts within the five films. By looking at the aesthetics of the institution picture, it is clear to see why this institution is used for horror and other psychological genres. This is because it contains the conventions of a horror which are black background which can give the impression of the feeling of total loneliness, and the barbed wire around the words also gives the impression to the target audience that within the film there will be some kind of twist which will cause one of the characters to get intwined with the horror around them. As a group we decided that this is a great institution to have within our trailer, this is because Twisted pictures has a history for doing low budgeted films as well as reaching out to the same target audience as our trailer is aiming for. We also decided to include this institution because  of how well the aesthetics of the institution fits in with our genre and our story line.

The institutions we have chosen;
 The institutions that we have chosen are Paramount Pictures and Touchstone Pictures the reason for this is because;

  • Paramount Pictures has commonly done war films or war related films so this is the perfect fit, this is because it is very much an in-house production company so things would work out cheaper than going for other institutions such as Universal Studios or 20Th Century Fox.
  • A touchstone is a rare stone that is struck to identify precious metals. This is a graphic interpretation of the value of the films produced by Touchstone Pictures. Which links straight into our film, this is because there is a very rare chance of a war involving only women within todays society and the way in which they are not discriminated against.

Features of a film magazine cover.

On a film magazine cover there are many different features, all of these features can link into the films that are within the magazine. on the front cover the person on the front is not the main actor but the main character this is because a famous actor could be a character who is not the main character within a film but yet the main character might not be a famous actor.

There are many different features to a film magazine cover these features include;
  • Background
  • Title
  • Puff
  • Plug
  • Barcode
  • Date and purchase amount
  • The main character
  • Teaser
 When first looking at a film magazine front cover there is many things which can attract your attention. One of the features that is most likely to attract the audience is the background. The background has to be dominant to stand out from other film magazines as well as to catch your audience's attention. This is because if you did not have a dominating background and you just had a plain white background then the magazine will not be appealing towards the audience. By looking at the example on the right it is clear to see that the background on this film cover attracts the audience because it is unusual and eye catching, however if this film magazine had a plain white background then they are unlikely to pick up the magazine and buy it.

  The title within the film magazine cover is important because it tells the audience what magazine they are buying as well as it it's catching so the audience know what film magazine they are buying. by looking at the example I have on the right it is clear to see that the title it big bold and red which stands out from the background, which means that the title is clear to see as it contrasts with the background.

  The puff is an extra that you can get from the magazine, more like freebies which is an add-on for the audience as they are more likely to buy a magazine if they are getting a free poster or gift out of the magazine. However on this magazine this doesn't seem to be there, the company obviously feels like this magazine will sell without any puff.

   The plug is something exclusive within the magazine that can attract the audience. The reason for this is to attract the audience to the magazine, on the example that is above the plug is 'Review of the year' as well as 'massive oscars special' these are some examples of a plug on the magazine cover above.

   The barcode is there on the front of the magazine cover this is important as it can show how realistic the magazine is as well as the price. If the front cover did not include the bar code then the audience might see it as the magazine looks out of place as well as unrealistic and a fake.

   The date and the purchase amount is important to the audience, this is because they will want the most up to date magazine including more recent information but they also might be collectors and so getting all of the issues is important. The price to be visible is important to the audience this is because they would want to know how much the magazine is going to cost them.

   The main character is on the front of the magazine, this is important because this will then indicate to the audience what film is it aimed at and most importantly what character rather than the actor.

  A teaser can be used to attract the audience, a teaser is used when the contents of the magazine is lacking so they add in a teaser to increase the sale of the magazine an example of a teaser is a world exclusive or exquisite interview.

Risk assessment

This is our groups risk assessment for filming, the risk assessment is a way of estimating the risk as well and attempting to control the amount of things in which could go wrong as well as how to eliminate them or to solve the problems. Some of the risks involved can be caused by weather and equipment. The risk assessment has the a=objective to have already singles out any possible problems with the filming, as this is something which is very common in film making for the benefit of the casting crew and the producer. As you can see from the risk assessment table above you are able to locate the possible hazards, identify who or what could be at risk if this hazard was to occur, what to do if this hazard happens, how big or small the hazard is to the schedule, as well as having to implicate any other equipment or adjustments to make sure that this does not happen or if it does- to ensure that this does not re-concurr.
